Our year has been enriched by the touch of God. Everywhere we look, we can see what the mighty hand of God has done. God should be credited for the many good things He has done! However, the credit always goes to humanity.
TIME magazine features their “Person Of The Year” every year. For 2025, the architects of AI are being celebrated. “They include Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, AMD CEO Lisa Su, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the CEO of Google’s DeepMind division Demis Hassabis, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and AI pioneer Fei-Fei Li.”1
These individuals line up to take their bows and their share of the credit for the accomplishment. Never once, though, is God mentioned. Never once does anyone say, “Glory to God!”
It hasn’t always been that way!
When reading historical documents from our nation such as charters of the original colonies or the documents upon which our nation was founded, the year of the writing commonly read in the year of our Lord. Why did they do this?
When writing the dates, we commonly see AD and BC. “The terms anno Domini (AD) and before Christ (BC) are used when designating years in the Gregorian and Julian calendars. The term anno Domini is Medieval Latin and means “in the year of the Lord” but is often presented using “our Lord” instead of “the Lord”, taken from the full original phrase “anno Domini nostri Jesu Christi“, which translates to “in the year of our Lord Jesus Christ”. The form “BC” is specific to English, and equivalent abbreviations are used in other languages: the Latin form, rarely used in English, is ante Christum natum (ACN) or ante Christum (AC).”2
The incarnation of Jesus was the focal point of time! Everything revolved around Him – as it should. Unfortunately, there has been a push to divest even our dates from any inference to God. Now, we will often see dates referenced as CE (Common Era) and BCE (Before Common Era).
2025 has been the year of our Lord. We must acknowledge that. Take the time to reflect back on what has transpired over the year. Notice the hand of God working in ways you couldn’t see at the time.
Thank Him for the blessings because they encouraged you.
Thank Him for the answered prayer because they built your faith.
Thank Him for telling you “no” because it showed that He was more interested in what was beneficial for us than making us happy for a moment.
Thank Him for that vacation because you spent quality time with the ones you loved and came back refreshed and ready to work.
Thank Him for your job because you have health, strength, and intelligence to do something productive.
Thank Him for chastisement because it showed that we are loved.
Thank Him for the problems because they grew our faith and when we were weak, then He was strong.
Thank Him for the roof over your head, the clothes on your back, and the roof over your head because it demonstrates contentment.
Thank Him for your salvation because without it, you would be on your way to eternal Hell.
I nominate Jesus as the 2025 Person of the Year. Without Him, we could do nothing!
Colossians 1:16-17 reminds us, “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (17) And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”
