Hotel Gru

April 7, 2026 By PastorJWMacFarlane

GRU Space (Galactic Resource Utilization Space), located in San Francisco, California, is offering you the chance to be one of the first to have your name go down in history.  Yes, for the low, low cost of $250,000, you can reserve your spot to be one of the first ever to have a room in the first moon-based hotel.  The plan is for the hotel to open in 2032.  That’s a bargain considering that once the hotel is open, a stay in the lunar luxury accommodation will cost over $400,000.

Not a bad deal compared to the $36 million Dennis Tito paid to spend 8 days on the International Space Station!

The GRU website features a 17-page white paper copyrighted January 2026, detailing the plans and possibilities of building a moon-based hotel.  It is filled with scientific equations, graphs, charts, and explanations of how this grand scheme can be accomplished.  They project that their first hotel (yes, they project even more in the future) will have only capacity for four guests at a time who will stay an average of five nights to the tune of $416,667 per person per night.  That’s why you need to book NOW at the introductory price!

WOW!  A family of four can spend $8,333,340 on their vacation and have absolutely no place to go and nothing to do while they are there.1

If this seems a bit outlandish, Orbital Assembly Corporation (OAC) released news in 2021 that they were planning the first hotel space station.  Called Voyager Station, “the hotel’s Star Trek-ish name promises to boldly take travelers to where no tourist has vacationed before…The circular space station resembles a giant wheel. To provide artificial gravity for its guests, Voyager will slowly rotate around itself.”2  A three-day stay in the luxury accommodations will cost $5 million.  Such a stay will get you “top chefs for five-star dining plus entertainment, with a celebrity roster including stars like Beyonce.”3

In 2022, it was projected that 2026 would be the year that construction would begin. “Space X boss Elon Musk said that Starship launches could cost as little as $2 million.”4  Musk, GRU, and OAC sound tone-deaf to me, making it sound like such a trip to the moon to vacation is attainable to all people.

Whether or not I think a hotel on the moon or in space is possible is irrelevant.  I think it is unnecessary.  Billions of dollars are being squandered and wasted on something that only billionaires could afford.  Globally, “there are 2,919 individual [billionaires], holding a total record wealth of $15.8 trillion.”5  That is .00003% of the world population and .00026% of the United States population.  It seems that the world’s problems are far greater than figuring out how to get an infinitesimal number of aristocrats an “out of this world” luxury vacation.

Nearly 10% of our world is considered impoverished.  Another 8% face hunger.  And 4% experience homelessness.  And the worst statistic of them all is that 42% of the world’s population have never heard the Gospel.6

James throws out a substantial warning in James 5:1-5.  “Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.  (2)  Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.  (3)  Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.  (4)  Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.  (5)  Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.”

According to Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance, the word for pleasure in verse 5 means you have indulged in luxury.  Thayer’s Greek Dictionary says that the word wanton means to live in luxury.  And the meaning of nourished your hearts means that they have fattened and pampered themselves.  All of this has been done at the expense of their souls and the neglect of the needy.

Wealth is not sinful.  Being “well off” is nothing to be ashamed of.  It’s what we do with that wealth that puts our hearts and character on full display.  Think about what could happen if those billions were invested in training missionaries and fully funding them and their outreach!

God made it very clear how we should view wealth.  Take Ephesians 4:28 to heart.  “Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.”
