Amazing Bodies

February 23, 2026 By PastorJWMacFarlane

This is a little bit different of a devotional.  Let me start by giving you some fun facts I discovered concerning the human body.

Humans glow very faintly due to biochemical reactions in the body, but it’s invisible to the naked eye.

Your bones are stronger than steel of the same density, especially the femur.

The human brain uses roughly 20% of the body’s total energy, despite being only about 2% of body weight.

Humans shed around 30,000–40,000 skin cells every minute, constantly renewing the outer layer.

Your stomach lining completely replaces itself every three to four days to prevent digestion damage.

Every person has a unique tongue print, just like fingerprints.

The average human walks the equivalent of five times around the Earth in their lifetime.

Humans can survive without food for weeks, but only three days without water.

Your body produces enough saliva in a lifetime to fill two swimming pools.

Humans blink about 15–20 times per minute, often without noticing.

The brain is sometimes more active during sleep than while awake.

The human nose can remember up to 50,000 different scents.

The average person spends six months of their life waiting at red lights.

Humans are the only animals that blush, triggered by emotional responses.

Your ears and nose continue growing throughout your entire life.

Humans can experience phantom vibrations, like feeling a phone buzz when it hasn’t.

Your brain sometimes fills in missing visual information, creating optical illusions.

The human heart beats about 100,000 times per day without conscious effort.

You are slightly taller in the morning than at night due to spinal compression.

Humans can remember emotional experiences better than factual ones.

Humans can recognize faces faster than any other object type.

The body contains enough fat to make seven bars of soap, chemically speaking.

Humans can hear sounds as low as 20 hertz and as high as 20,000 hertz.

Your brain predicts the world milliseconds ahead to compensate for processing delays.

Humans sweat to cool down more efficiently than most animals.

The average human laughs about 15 times per day, often socially rather than from humor.

Your blood travels about 12,000 miles through your body each day.

Humans are constantly making tiny unconscious decisions every second.1

When people talk about evolution and want to deny the Creator, I am baffled.  These bodily facts are remarkable!  There is such precision and intricacy in the design.  Look how many years of medicine and science it has taken for us to learn this much about our bodies and imagine how much there is that we still don’t know.  How can anyone with a modicum of intelligence credit anything, anyone, or any process for creation other than THE CREATOR?

Creation is as simple as Genesis 1:1, 3.  “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.  (3)  And God said, Let there be light: and there was …”  And it doesn’t get any clearer than what we read in Colossians 1:15-17.   “[Jesus] Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:  (16)  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:  (17)  And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”

Spend some time today reflecting on the wonder of God’s creation of our amazing bodies and praising Him because we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalms 139:14)
