Today is National Call Your Doctor Day, a day established in 2016 by Bright Pink, a charity organization whose “mission is to accelerate, deepen, and expand the impact of life-saving breast and ovarian health interventions.”1 The idea is to encourage women to get their well-woman check-ups to help ensure that they stay well. However, this is a good reminder to the guys as well. YOU need regular check-ups, right? Guys can be a bit thick headed when it comes to this. And I’m a guy so I speak with firsthand knowledge!
It’s easy to ignore the routine check-ups, especially if we are feeling well. Life gets busy, the calendar gets full, and before you know it, the year has ended. For others, it’s a matter of finances. A visit to the doctor is not cheap. Wellness visits may not be covered by your insurance, or you have an exceptionally high deductible. By the time you add the cost of lab work and any other test the doctor orders, you could easily spend $1,000 or more. If you aren’t sick now, just wait till the bill arrives!
If we all called our doctors today, the phone lines would be jammed and most of us would never get through. However, there is one Physician who is available 24/7/365 and He can handle all of our calls at once.
Genesis 20:17 says, “So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.” God healed. Elohim Rapha. Elohim is the name of God which entails all the Godhead.
A more familiar verse is found in Exodus 15:26. “And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.” Jehovah Rapha. Jehovah is the proper name of the one, true God.
Jesus, who is God in the flesh, introduced Himself with this terminology in the Gospels. In Matthew 9:12-13, Jesus said, “…They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. (13) But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” The Great Physician has come to heal humanity of the greatest disease ever known to man. Sin.
Sin is far worse than cancer. It’s worse than old age. It’s worse than any disease or pandemic. It’s worse than Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, heart attacks, strokes, or anything else that we could contract. Sin affects everyone at conception and it is 100% fatal.
Imagine a doctor having a cure for cancer and only offering it to certain individuals while watching the others needlessly die. What would you think of a doctor like that? Would he be able to be prosecuted for criminal negligence?
What would you say about the Great Physician who has the cure to man’s ailment but only offers the cure to certain ones? There are those who teach this. It’s called Reformed Theology. Now, with a humanitarian defiance, you might say, “Well, if it’s not available to ALL then I don’t want it, either.” However, the Reformed Theology says you can’t do that. If the Great Physician had the cure and it is intended for you, you cannot refuse it and you won’t. That is INSANE! And it goes contrary to other Scripture.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
1 Timothy 2:3-4 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; (4) Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
The Great Physician awaits your call but don’t put it off. Doctors don’t doctor dead people and there’s nothing they can do once they’ve passed. The Great Physician can do nothing for you, either, once you’ve passed from this world into eternity.
