A TIME magazine article from 1960 foretells some news that is to become reality in less than two years. If you didn’t know your Bible, this news would probably be disturbing to many. The article is titled Science: Doomsday in 2026 A.D. According to this article and Dr. Heinz von Foerster along with Patricia M. Mora and Lawrence W. Amiot, a Doomsday Equation was created that declared the world was going to come to an end specifically on Friday, November 13, 2026. (Hmmmm….Friday the 13th!)
Right away, we may think that these are a bunch of crackpots who have been watching for an invasion of Martians. What might surprise us, though, is that these were all professors at the University of Illinois. Dr. von Foerster received his Ph.D from the University of Breslau in Poland, a highly esteemed research university that produces many scientists. After immigrating to the United States, von Foerster began his work in cybernetics, electrical engineering, and biophysics. And, the research of these three scientists on the Doomsday Equation was published by Stanford University as well as other prestigious institutions.
According to these scientists, what is going to cause the demise of the world? Will it be a nuclear holocaust? Will one nation destroy another until nobody exists? Will a massive asteroid fall from the sky? Will we get sucked into a black hole? Their theory produced nothing crazy like that. Instead, the inevitable is going to happen.
We’re going to get squeezed to death.
Dr. von Foerster believed that the world’s population would exceed the world’s resources. We are populating the planet at an exponentially increased rate. As he extrapolated the numbers, by 2026, the world is going to resemble a rock concert where the venue is filled beyond capacity and people start dying from being trampled. If we don’t get trampled in our overpopulated world, we will stave or suffocate to death. And all of this is going to happen before Thanksgiving 2026.1
The Smithsonian magazine seems to agree that this is where everything is headed, although, they don’t go out on the limb by predicting dates. In an article from 2023, they write, “Human activities have caused the Earth to exceed six of nine boundaries necessary for keeping the planet healthy, pushing the environment “well outside the safe operating space for humanity.”2
Do you hear things like that and feel a pang of panic in your chest? Some people do, especially those who don’t know the Bible. Such ideas have incited the likes of Greta Thunberg, Jane Goodall, Julia “Butterfly” Hill, Erin Brockovich, and Al Gore to spew their “save the planet” rhetoric around the world.
For those who know what the Bible says, there are some important things we should understand. First, we should be good stewards of the resources God has given. Psalms 8:6-8 says of man, “Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: (7) All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; (8) The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.” Being stewards implies being caretakers, not abusers.
God made provision in Exodus and Leviticus for giving the land “rest” from planting and harvesting. Every seventh year, the ground was to be left fallow. This allowed the ground time to replenish its nutrients so that it would continue to produce good crops for all the upcoming generations.
At the same time, the planet was never to be treated as a god to be worshipped. This sin is seen in Scripture as well as in our politically driven environmentalist movement today. Romans 1:18-25 says, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; (19) Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. (20) For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (21) Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. (22) Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, (23) And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. (24) Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: (25) Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”
As for the animals, 1 Timothy 4:1-5 says, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (2) Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; (3) Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. (4) For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: (5) For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”
And as for the end of the world in 2026, all I will say is — IMPOSSIBLE! It doesn’t matter what your fancy math equation says. There is the Rapture, seven years of Tribulation, and 1,000 years of the Millennial reign. Add that up and if the Lord were to return today, there is 1,007 years before the end of the world. 2 Peter 3 tells us HOW the earth will be destroyed and WHO will do it.
Keep a Biblical worldview and the fearmongers will never both you. And don’t worry. We aren’t going to get squeezed to death!
