A number of weeks ago, I heard an advertisement on a radio talk show that encouraged diversifying some of your investments into precious metals, specifically gold but silver, platinum, and palladium were offered as well. Out of curiosity, I went to the website. It’s all legit, however, once you visit the site, you are going to get inundated with advertisements, pop up ads, and phone calls from these companies, wanting you to invest in gold. To say that they are pushy is an understatement – and a bit arrogant as I asked a lot of questions out of ignorance.
Somehow, Google knows where you’ve been looking and shares that information with other social media platforms. As I was searching for a topic for this devotional, guess what popped up. Seven Precious Facts About Gold.1 Perhaps I will regret reading the article and will receive even more advertisements. But you are safe if you read this devotional. I promise – I will not send you any information on gold investments!
The first interesting fact about gold is its chemical properties. Unlike many other metals, gold is extremely malleable. A single gram of gold is about the size of a grain of rice, yet it can be pounded into a sheet that is 10.763 square feet. In fact, you can do just about anything you want to gold – heating, melting, rubbing – and it will not lose any of its chemical properties.
Gold is ancient. It was used for jewelry as far back as 4000 BC. For thousands of years, it has been used as currency. And the love of gold has fueled many historical adventures. Gold rushes have taken place in Australia, South Africa, and in several U.S. states. “In 1799, 12-year-old Conrad Reed found a 17-pound nugget in a stream on his grandfather’s North Carolina farm, the first time gold was found in the United States. Four years later, the Reed Gold Mine opened and attracted other prospectors hoping to strike it rich. Gold rushes also occurred in California in 1848, Nevada in the 1860s, and the Klondike
In case you’re curious, at the time of the writing of this devotional (6/30/25), gold closed at $3303.18/ounce, up $29.28 from yesterday or an increase of .89%. Since January 1st of this year, this has been an increase of $678.55 per ounce (25.85% increase).
Well, I don’t own any gold, but I have something far more valuable than gold. I have my Bible. I have the Word of God which is full of His Words from cover to cover. It is the wisdom and knowledge of God.
Psalms 119:72 The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.
Psalms 119:127 Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.
Proverbs 8:10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
Proverbs 16:16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

May I suggest that we all invest in gold today? Not the precious metal but the Precious Word. Psalms 19:9-10 says, “The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. (10) More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”
